Solar Powered Water Heating is becoming increasingly popular for UK households due to the drastic financial savings this technology presents.
Solar heating systems (collectors or panels) absorb as much of the sun’s heat as possible and moves the heat from the collector to its point of usage, and a reservoir or tank
for heat storage and subsequent use. The hot water from the tank can then be used for all household use s such as washing, showering, bathing etc.
Ideally, solar panels should be south-facing but south-east or south-west will also operate efficiently. Solar powered panels are placed on the roof at an angle of between 20 and 50 degrees.
Solar Powered Water Heating panels should provide most of the hot water needs of an average household for the sunniest four or five months of the year. Overall it will provide 40-60% of your domestic hot water requirements throughout the year.
